My understanding is that you only use one setting.  Then test the results using

hdparm -t /dev/hde or hdparm -Tt /dev/hde for more complete analisys.

There are lots of settings, but the -X seems to be the key

Interesting. The man page for hdparm does warn about the -X##
parameter. It suggests that you run hdparm -i to find out what your
drive supports before chosing a -X setting. Although this is an ATA100
drive, connected to an ATA100 card, the hdparm -i test indicated
UltraDMA Mode 2 support.

So, can I use both -X66 & -X69? Assuming the answer is no, which will
provide a greater benefit?
