I'd try sticking in a script in /etc/network/if-up.d.

Actually, it looks just fine to me.  Yes, I get momentarily confused
sometimes (typing "route -n show" in Linux when I really just need
"route -n", for example), but that particular line looks good enough to
satisfy both BSD's and Linux's idea of route(8).
