>My Mother is connected through Comcast Coatsville connection. about >once a month the dhcp fails and all you have to do is reboot the router >and it works. It seems either their system goes down periodically or >they are seeing that you are up continously and pull the plug on you >forcing you to reboot. > >Because my mother is in Downingtown, she cannot get dsl at her location >:-( so she must have a dynamic IP address. First, this sounds more like a cablemodem problem than some other problem. 2nd, I've had the same IP address except for a brief period of time when I used a 2nd NIC MAC address. No matter how many times the modem loses sync, or has to be reeducated, I get back the same IP address, and I suspect that Comcast will keep on assigning an address based on the MAC of the NIC nominally connected to it. 3rd if all she is losing time on happens once a month, be grateful, there are friends of mine, who regularly lose their connection and have to reset their cable modem, and then their computers to get started up. _________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.netisland.net/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.netisland.net/mailman/listinfo/plug
