I just noticed that this does work for me from konqueror but not mozilla on an older SuSE (7.3) distro. For me, mozilla says "smb is not a registered protocol" which means, I guess, that one could register it somehow. Is there a shell that redhat uses that understands URLs like that? bash does not as far as I can tell.
