I compiled kernels easily for many other distros, but rh7.2 has been a pain for me. The actual kernel compiled and installed, but then it refused to boot. I can't remember the exact problem as I have since given up and used stock kernels for those situations where I couldn't just install debian. > fails with errors. Last try, with RH8 it was in the apic (or apci - i > always get them confused) section. And I haven't even applied the patches > yet. There was trouble w/ them using a non-release compiler: 2.96, but this hasn't been an issue w/ anything greater than 7.2, IMHO. Are they using gcc 3.2 w/ rh8? I think that this should yield a slightly faster kernel. I wish I could help more. Maybe you could give us exact error message you are seeing as well as the kernel version. Thanks.
