I had PCMCIA working fine on RH 7.2 and 7.3. I used both a CDROM and
PCMCIA network card with the laptop. However, I did not use the RH
kernel sources (which also worked; I just like to compile my own
kernels), but rather the mainline ones at www.kernel.org. Any reason you
don't want to try 2.4.19? It runs fine on my laptop now (although it is
now Gentoo).

If you do decide to get 2.4.19, the next decision you have to make is
whether to use APM or ACPI. APM is definitely more functional ATM,
however some laptops absolutely require the use of ACPI. If your laptop
is one of them, make sure you get the latest ACPI patch from
www.sourceforge.net/projects/acpi. Both APM and ACPI compile cleanly for me.

Finally don't forget to wade thru the host of links Google brings up for
"r505 linux", especially if you can read Japanese. ;)

Hope this helps,
Rahul
