I don't think that employees are as costly as they look on paper. By employee, I mean good employee. Do-nothing employees are worthless, I agree. I have made back my salary in every job that I have had in the last five years. For example, I did some checking around on the boss' estimates of equipment, and I saved thousands in a matter of hours. I did some english grammer checking for a third of market price for the same work. Another plug poster saved thousands by installing linux on a server. And so on. Some jobs just need to get done so to fire a good employee because the budget is tight is going to lose money. So it's assinine to think that employees are an expense while the really are an asset.
