New machine uses LBA, old uses CHS, or vice versa. Your partitions may also be in bad shape, as the old CHS/LBA values no longer correspond to the original locations on the disk.

I've seen this before but forgot what it was. A quick search turned up this:

It's officially described as a "drive geometry error".
It means that lilo doesn't like the way (it thinks) your boot device
looks.
Have you done anything to change your hard drives and/or partitions
lately?

Seems like it would happen when changing machines.
