I say that because Linux and NetBSD are both tuned, these days, to perform well on lower-end machines (though both are bloating in nasty ways) and it's *far* easier to make yourself a tight kernel (in that you actually have the source) with only the hardware devices you have and use loaded. If you think NetBSD is getting bloated, I'll have to introduce you to OpenBSD when I get settled in up here (yes, for the record, I have been a PA resident since about 4:30 this afternoon).
