Re: [PLUG] OT: wanted busted laptop for use as server
|
I've got a compaq with very similar specs, 486 DX75, 24M, apprx 700M
HDD (don't recall exactly) - RH6.x already installed. I used to use it
as my dial up router, but it's just sitting there now.
Also have a compaq(?) 486 laptop that i took apart (it did work though)
because I wanted to graft the LCD onto an embedded computer, but never
had time to finish.
that reminds me - i have an embedded computer too - but it needs a
PC104 card for ethernet - it didn't have built in ethernet- but it may
have built in USB - I don't recall. I have a 2.5in 1.3G HDD that works
great with it. probably more trouble than it's worth - unless you like
doing that kind of thing for fun - like i did - when i used to have
time, before i had children...

I'm looking on eBay for a busted laptop to use as server. Plan on
attaching
a parallel port printer, and sharing maybe 1 GB of files. Basically
needs
only to connect to a KVM and Ethernet. (If it has a larger harddrive
and OK
sound I'd use it as a ~.mp3 player too.) Hoping to score something
with a
cracked LCD or other major damage, in other words, cheap.
I've got an old Toshiba 400CDT which works, but I don't have a use for
it
anymore. Pentium 75MHz, 24MB RAM, 850 MB disk drive.
Also a 3com ethernet card and PCMCIA modem which both work perfectly
with the
computer, if you need it.
E-mail me privately as to what you're looking for.
