Anyone know of any Java programs (or applets even) that can read (write?)
Doc and Xls formats? I'm googling and coming up a little shy. Any Open

Can't help on java, but abiword and gnumeric do decent jobs of
understanding doc and xls respectively. In cases where they don't do
good enough jobs, OpenOffice (formerly StarOffice) gets more details
right, at the expense of slamming your CPU and imposing a bad
interface for no good reason.
