Re: [PLUG] how kernel compiling works

If you look at the size of the actual bzImage it will probably fit on a floppy, but the size of the uncompressed image will not. I have been getting such messages on my kernel compiles also.

Thanks for everybody's help.

I now have a kernel with SCSI and RAID support built in. I conclude this from the fact that I have my software SCSI RAID mounted and lsmod does not show any modules whatsoever.

I got a message toward the end of the make bzImage command which indicated that my kernel is too big for "standalone" boot from floppy. Should I worry about this? If the computer fails for some reason, I want to be able to move the SCSI interface to another computer, plug my external RAID into it, and boot from a premade floppy for this purpose.

Can I do this?

Thanks,
Wayne
