Re: [PLUG] OSS desktop (windows) anti-virus?

This is where I think that norton has crippled their system. I'm not sure if I can automate the update (from any location) without the subscription service. But I will look into it further, thanks.

Someone else sent me the link to the definitions -which is great. However, I really like them to auto-install. I wonder if I setup a script to automatically download the new defs - I could get the windows machines to install them on login? This is probably a real pain in the ass. At $30 each - I may be able to swing that on all the machines.

What I did back when I worked in a corporate environment was this. I created a script to FTP the new DAT file to a server. From there I configured the PCs running McAfee 4.x to auto update from the local server. That gave us control over the updates while reducing usage of the Internet connection. (Actually, before I started getting involved in virus protection, most of the scanner were not being updated at all!)
