This should work for you, but it is older now - you could also add this
to your sources.list file:

deb http://marillat.free.fr/ stable main

then apt-get install mplayer

You'll still need codecs to decode many formats.  You can get them at
mplayerhq:
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design6/news.html

or you can use the quick debs I put together:
