Doesn't matter, as long as they have the mac of the modem. I've switch my router many of times, once you switch it out it takes some time for them to get the new mac of the router. I believe each time I switched out routers it took 15 mins before I got a new lease. -----Original Message----- From: plug-admin@lists.phillylinux.org [mailto:plug-admin@lists.phillylinux.org] On Behalf Of Paul Sent: Thursday, September 18, 2003 2:23 PM To: plug@lists.phillylinux.org Subject: [PLUG] cable modem and MAC I just took Comcast's $20 per month for six months deal. I bought the Motorola modem (after spying the Lynksys modem). Question is, as far as Comcast grabbing my MAC address, is it critical to make my initial connection with a router, or would it be OK to route through my GNU/Linux PC until I switch to a router? ________________________________________________________________________ _ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.netisland.net/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.netisland.net/mailman/listinfo/plug _________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.netisland.net/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.netisland.net/mailman/listinfo/plug
