the e-mail server that I use for most of my e-mail is Exim. In that, I have a real username of 'brad'. Exim allows user-extension@server to have its own special filtering rules. For instance, I have a rule for -plug. If it doesn't have "PLUG" in the subject line, it gets deleted. I know that this might not be the best of ideas, but I get no spam in my plug folder. I also had to set up an extra 'server' in my mail client to send using brad-plug@server (see my headers for the real address). Until I have my own machine with my own spam filtering, i fear that this is what i will have to do. -b -----Original Message----- From: plug-admin@lists.phillylinux.org [mailto:plug-admin@lists.phillylinux.org]On Behalf Of Jeffrey J. Nonken Sent: Wednesday, October 15, 2003 12:48 PM To: Philadelphia Linux Users Group Subject: [PLUG] OT: Spam I've recently started receiving spam to this email account. The only thing I use this email account for is email lists. I did a quick Google on this email address and found three lists with archives that are storing my email address without obscuring it. This was one of the three. I don't know if my address was reaped from this list's archives, but if not, it's only a matter of time. Is there any way you can set the archives to save email addresses obscured in some way? I can easily morph to a new address, but if it's just going to get me spam to the new address, I can't see why it would be worth the effort. The alternative is for me to leave the list. Though I doubt I'll be missed. On the other hand, this isn't just my problem. The rest of you will be getting spam too, sooner or later. Address mangling works fine for newsgroups, but the list manager won't let me post unless it's from the address that signed up for the list. So I'm afraid this has to be tackled at the list software end. Thank you for your attention. ----- Jeffrey J.
