Umm how about Mozilla Thunderbird? I have never seen anybody so much grossed with FSF/BSD/GNU stuff.

Mozilla 1.5 is very nice by [my] current standards.

In general you are right about hardware and software not being ideal. The future will bring better technology, hopefully. If computers don't drive you insane first, maybe you will contribute to the next generation of systems.
