True. At the same time it is possible that a list with so many people on it, that the list would include people with personal experience with similar situations. The second part of the issue involves pure speculation.


Why would a corporation which regularly lays off people, is rumored to move its headquarters to another state within few months, and is rumored to declare bankruptcy within six months issue a bunch of "bonuses" to trap people into six-month commitments to the corporation?

Seems to me that $1000 dollars would qualify for small claims court. You could represent yourself and local judges generally lean toward the little guy. Also your employer might not even send their representation($$$$$), and you could win by default.
