the older redhat (6.2 and below) you need to patch kernel,
but newer ones (i use 7.2 i think)  recognize it out of the box.  
I used ultra 66 and ultra 100tx2 with redhat, works fine.
(my rh7.2 server has a ultra 100tx2 and it even boots on
teh drive on the card--motheboard is tyan tiger 100).

you'll need to remap drives if necessary (/dev/hde, hdg, etc).

you may need to tweak a bit by way of hdparm if you find
speed problems (be careful though).

i dont know if it will do anything to recognize capacity though.
