--> kmhryhpdblyx@spammotel.com --> I was following along until I read this. There are only 2 windows --> computers 1-2 Linux computers. I know where to set up the WINS --> configuration in the two Windows computers. If I was going to set it --> up in only one place to ¨keep it simple¨, where would that be? --> --> --> lmhosts on the windows machines. It's like a hosts file for Lan --> Manager networking. The DHCP _server_ is manually configured and this is where global changes are made. The DHCP server gives out the: * host's IP address and subnet mask (host computes network address and broadcast address) * default gateway * DNS1, DNS2, (DNS3) * WiNS1, WiNS2 * Other stuff: DNS suffix, DNS search order, Microsoft "node type" Clients (DHCP clients) are manually configured with hostnames, get everything else from DHCP. (It is very possable that the *nix clients can't get the WiNS server IPs and Microsoft "node types" via DHCP though... I'm not sure.) ___________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
