That is what I figured would be the case, plus I don't really get that many
calls to my house during the day that would necessitate me getting mp3
emails.
I always thought it would be cool to build a better alarm clock. With WiFi
technology and a 5" LCD screen one could make an alarm clock that shows TV
news clips, weather info, Sports news, your daily calendar, emails waiting
to be read, etc. etc... Anyone feel like starting a company? All the
technology is here we just need to put it all into one place, I for one
would love to wake up to something better then that stupid beep or some lame

I've tried the answering machine programs that have automated voice mail
and different mail boxes. Honestly its more obtrusive then it worth and
most people that call have no clue on how to use it. I know "Hit 1 for
Matt" is very tough for the average user. Some are very neat and will
even email you your calls and attach the message as a WAV or MP3.. Which
is very cool.

I thought about the mp3 server thing but I have one roommate who has his
own
tastes (read: awful) in music and I doubt he would want to share my
mp3s.
Someone else suggested donating the free cycles, which I will most
likely do
(that should be a tax write off) assuming that I don't need a screen
saver
type program to run any of them. But I will look into that suggestion.
I like the idea of a DNS server as well, that sounds like a fun project.
The
game server is a good idea too, but its doubtful that I would play the
games
enough to justify having an entire box dedicated to it.
What about some sort of pbx system? I could throw in a modem, find some
freshmeat software and hack away at making a killer answering machine?
Has
anyone ever tried anything like that before?
Thanks for all the suggestions, Now I just need to get these 6 running
computers out of my room so it doesn't sound like I sleep in a subway
station.

If you put a bigger HD in one of them you can have a nice MP3 server. Or
you can setup a nice Doom 2 LAN and have a small party. There is still a
lot of fun in creating your own WAD and killing each other.
Anyway I know your dilemma I have a few machine laying around that could
be put to better use. I have 386, 486 all setup with old games if I
ever get time to play them.

I have just revamped 3 Pentium class (166mhz, 3gb, 64MB) computers with
my
favorite OS (Slack v8.1) but I can't think of a use for any of them. I
already have a firewall, ssh server and web server. So the question is,
if
you were me, what would you do with these computers?
