	What kind of card is it?  I've had success with Broadcom, Intel,
and SysKonnect gigabit cards with a Dell gigabit switch.  Some of the
drivers have flags you can set in modules.conf/modprobe.conf to affect the
connection speed, duplex, autodetection, etc.  The available flags are
usually documented in the kernel source under Documentation/networking/
