How about Home Automation.

X-10 control is the most "trivial" (read common).

How about "other" stuff -- HVAV control, Dallas Semi's "1-Wire(tm)", RS485.

I actually have all of them, but they are run by a Stargate OEM'd box called, "Micahel" - [Multimedia Interface Controlling Heating, AIr Conditioning, Energy & Lighting].

I keep telling myself that I'll add IR interfaces for Home Theater stuff, but haven't yet (they're sitting in a box).
