I redid my system about a year ago, and i went with an AMD processor,
with a gigabyte mobo using the Nvidia Nforce chipsets.

I've got to say, i've been very pleased with it. The ram is dual
channeled, which is nice, and gigabyte was kind enough to provide the
software to overclock the processor and motherboard.

IIRC the price for the mobo/proc was under $150.
