Levity aside, Walt's right. If you don't know where you are going, you'll
never find a sign for a trolley. SEPTA actually started using the colors
(Orange = Broad Street Subway; Blue = Market/Frakford El [which I can't help
calling a subway because it is underground wherever /I/ take it, and I end up
confusing seasoned transit riders for whom only the Broad St. Line is a
subway]; and Green = Subway-Surface Lines [which are trolleys that run
underground, mostly parallel to the El -- not the subway -- from City Hall to
40th St. or so, and hence the term Subway-Surface). Strangely, this all
makes sense to regular riders who bristle when I call the El the Subway and
may not know what one is talking about when they refer to the trolley in
areas where it runs underground. Whew!
