Just to play around with words a bit (not to disagree with you for the
sake of disagreeing with you ;) ) I would vote that technically it is
"file system" for the simple reason that filesystem has not been
accepted as a word by any dictionary I could find.  On the other hand,
"pathname", for example, is listed in the dictionary as a valid word.

Personally I think you can call it whatever you want as long as it is
obvious what you are talking about... but it's always fun to play with
words.
