[PLUG] linux boot disk for hacking win admin password

in researching discovery of a lost Windows admin password (2000, XP, etc),
i have seen reference to a procedure using a linux boot floppy to hack the sam database.

does anyone know how to do this and/or had success with this?

i have that typical problem of working at a site,
where the admin is gone, leaving no password data.

i dont want to ghost every machine.
