Re: [PLUG] ethernet wiring in walls

Here is the el-cheapo method....

Need:

1. 9v battery
2. 9v battery connector to wires
3. a short cable end with exposed wires
4. a cable connector box to screws (or another
short cable if both ends have jacks)
5. 1 LED

FIRST: DISCONNECT ALL EQUIPMENT FROM NETWORK

Since logic levels go up to 5V, so you can't overload anything by accident, it's better to use a pair of AAA or AA batteries to create a <5V power source. Also, make sure you use LEDs with built-in resistors, or resistors added, or your LEDs will burn out.

I actually make a few of these testers. At one end I have a power source. At the other end I have a jack with two LEDs in it. Works great. It can detect a loose wire better than an expensive piece of equipment that is used mostly for more sophisticated tests.

I could make and sell a couple if anyone wants them.
