While this is a good point, I read a document somewhere (forgive me for not
being able to cite it directly) that said that the authoritative DNS servers
for a domain should be hosted on servers with verifiable three 9's uptime..
I will dig around to see if I can find it again - but it has been a few
years (read it when I was setting up my stuff 3 years ago)...

I do run servers on my DSL, but there's no way I have 99.9% uptime just by
virtue of the fact that occasionally I do lose my connection for an hour,
occasionally have to install a new kernel, which can mean another hour or
two, and so on.. .it adds up..

In any case, since DCA will do all the maintenance work as part of their
service, it's certainly worth it to me to just email them the updates and
let them do the busy work :)
