So what box are you using? The Vonage supplied box? Is it installed
between the modem and router or after the router? According to the Vonage
docs the only way it will do QOS adjustments is if it is installed between
the modem and router or computer. I am still not clear on how it would
work in this way. I DHCP via MAC address to a static IP. I do not have use
PPOE. I run a Linux server on the LAN side of my BEFSR41. In questioning
Vonage I don't really get good answers. That is why this Linksys box
seemed inviting. It gives you maximum control over things while still
having the QOS and other Vonage features.

You /can/ put the Vonage ATA behind the router. The only benefit for me would be simplified port forwarding. My setup requires port forwarding within both the ATA and the router.

This is my setup: cable modem -> Vonage ATA -> WRT54GS router -> wired/wireless computers

The ATA is a Motorola VT1005V that is on loan from Vonage. All I had to pay for was shipping.

I looped back my main phone connection to enable the Vonage ATA to serve all phones in my apartment. "All" means one cordless and one wired phone. The phones are relatively far away (like they can be that far away in small an apartment) and they work well.

I have all of the network equipment and one PC connected to a 500VA UPS. The only time I needed it, the UPS kept my phone up for over an hour, until the AC power came back.

The WRT54GS is able to do MAC-based IP assignments. If not with the standard firmware, then with one of the custom firmware releases. Yeah, I just checked and I can do that using TinyPEAP firmware.

BTW, my cable connection is back. It was disconnected outside. While my network was down, our calls seamlessly forwarded to the wife's cell phone. (That was nice until the telemarketers started calling!)

Perhaps I could call you sometime on your Vonage number and see how it
sounds. When I decide I will use you as my referer.

Sure. I'll even use the cordless phone. Usually, I talk on the wired phone because it feels more private; especially if I call the bank or a credit card company.
