> distro's for newbies who really want to learn the OS Precisely what do you mean by that? learn from the ground up, take a long time to do it gentoo linux from scratch it works with most hardware, you learn the hard way, it'll be stable for a long while redhat enterprise knock-offs (wbel, tao, fermi, etc.) keeps you on your toes, might not work always, you learn the VERY hard way fedora core 3 helps you move slowly to linux from windows xandros + crossover office I have only researched the above; I am in no way suggesting that you don't use any of the distros you already mentioned. Only the last suggestion above will cost you money.
