Well that might be true but there are plenty of us that have had IDE running 24/7 for years. I have had just as much if not more trouble with (supposed) long warranty SCSI drives. HP were the worst and IBM's were not that great either. Both are no longer around. With the advent of SATA drives I would go in that direction for anything new. There are a number of motherboards that feature RAID and dual RAID configurations. My latest system (windows multimedia - sorry!) has 8 SATA ports and dual raid controllers.
