I use mondo-archive (sys-apps/mondo-rescue) and it's been working great
for me...

My setup is that I back-up stuff with mondo in .iso format and then rsync
them to a remote server.

At work I use a couple of simple bash scripts that use rsync to back-up
some stuff.
