Linux server sharing directories via samba and also NFS to accommodate both linux and windows clients. Windows clients have no problem with this. Linux clients work OK if using NFS - however, since many of the linux clients are laptops - the NFS mounts are problematic when the laptop goes to sleep then travels. Mounting the smb shares is OK though a little buggy when traversing multiple levels of directories with lots of spaces in their names (may be a nautilus issues). We have very little activity on the Windows side now as we mostly use linux desktops, so I'm fine with phasing out the Samba sharing - however the NFS mounts are a real pain for the laptops. NFS seems to crash the kernel during shutdown and stalls the interface often when travelling. Has anyone found a good methodology for getting an all linux client/server lan with laptop support?
