[PLUG] Linux file sharing best practices

Linux server sharing directories via samba and also NFS to accommodate both linux and windows clients. Windows clients have no problem with this. Linux clients work OK if using NFS - however, since many of the linux clients are laptops - the NFS mounts are problematic when the laptop goes to sleep then travels. Mounting the smb shares is OK though a little buggy when traversing multiple levels of directories with lots of spaces in their names (may be a nautilus issues). We have very little activity on the Windows side now as we mostly use linux desktops, so I'm fine with phasing out the Samba sharing - however the NFS mounts are a real pain for the laptops. NFS seems to crash the kernel during shutdown and stalls the interface often when travelling.

Has anyone found a good methodology for getting an all linux client/server lan with laptop support?
