Re: [PLUG] Installation obstacles

To boot from a CD, you'll have to modify your BIOS settings. To get to that screen, there's usually a function key at startup labeled Setup or something like that. Then, set your CD drive to boot before your hard drive.

Have you tried opening the CD in your current OS? I know for Mandrake that there's an icon on the CD that will start the installation.

A new linux user, switching from a poorly installed Mandrake to a hopefully correctly installed Ubuntu distribution, I cannot figure out how to boot the installation disc. It does not automatically pop up when I start or restart the computer (2000 IBM Thinkpad). Is there a command to use once I'm in Mandrake that will allow me to install Ubuntu? Or is there another way to boot the installation disc?

Thanks,
Melissa
