I don't have 400GB to spare. Although I might be able to pull off software RAID0 with a pair of 200-300 GB drives. The biggest challenge will be not buring out the 200W power supply. Fortunately, I picked up one of these (http://www.byteccusa.com/product/USB/bt-200.htm) nifty little things a while back, which has a PS that can give me an extra 50-60 W to work with in limited situations, like this. > we'll afaik you're screwed as far as the "easy way" goes, as ext3 > does not provide any kind of undelete functionality (the list of > blocks owned by an inode disappears when the file does). That's why I didn't start this last night. I know I am screwed and I know it ain't gonna be easy. ;) > so... exactly what kind of data/how much data/how many files are we > talking about here? They are JPGs from 500kB to 3MB in size in I-dont-know-how-many files from 1.5 years of digital photography and 1 year of traditional photography converted to digital. I'd love to get them back, and am willing to put the work in, but it won't kill me if it's hopeless. > you might want to look back in the plug archives for a thread about > "undo mkfs" in which i (and others iirc) gave some advice for what > to do in these "worst of all situations" situations. I vaguely remember the thread... using dd to image the partition.
