True. I don't have 400GB to spare. Although I might be able to pull
off software RAID0 with a pair of 200-300 GB drives. The biggest
challenge will be not buring out the 200W power supply.

Fortunately, I picked up one of these
(http://www.byteccusa.com/product/USB/bt-200.htm) nifty little things
a while back, which has a PS that can give me an extra 50-60 W to
work with in limited situations, like this.

That's why I didn't start this last night. I know I am screwed and I
know it ain't gonna be easy. ;)

They are JPGs from 500kB to 3MB in size in I-dont-know-how-many files
from 1.5 years of digital photography and 1 year of traditional
photography converted to digital. I'd love to get them back, and am
willing to put the work in, but it won't kill me if it's hopeless.

I vaguely remember the thread... using dd to image the partition.
