[PLUG] Xorg and screen resolution

I did a dist-upgrade today and in the process switched from xfree to
xorg.  I'm now unable to display more than 800x600.

I'm googling, but it's slow going at this resolution.  Some say doing
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg should help, but for me it only brings
me up to 1024x768.  (I'm trying for 2048x1536.)  Editing the xorg.conf
file hasn't produced good results yet.  I've also tried switching (via
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg) to xfree86 again, but that also doesn't
help.
