Re: [PLUG] firewire drive errors

A while ago, circa 1999, I was running a server that had fairly high
disk usage (4000k/sec) 24/7 with 6x100G maxtor drives. 3 of them ended
up dying within 4 months so we ended up moving over to western
digital. I don't know if it was an isolated event, but I'm kinda weary
of using maxtor to this day. Good luck if you decide to keep em.

My experiences with Maxtor drives mirror those of Jon. I wouldn't touch a Maxtor drive with a 39 and a half foot pole.

WD has mostly been good, though my drive of choice has been Seagate
for some time now. Good quality, and best of all - most of their
better drives have a 5 year warranty.
