After looking at traffic with Ethereal, I can see that the ATA communicates regularly with Vonage while idle using ports 10,000 udp and 5061 udp (sip-tls). And nmap shows that port 10,000 tcp on the ATA is wide open. (Why is the open port tcp when Vonage is using udp?) When I made a call, ports 10054 and 12260 were used for the actual voice communication. A second test call used ports 10058 and 12630. At the same time, ports one number higher are also being used, so a total of four ports in the 10002 to 19999 range are being used during a call. (RTP uses even numbered ports, RTCP uses the next higher odd numbered ports.) From what I understand SDP (session description protocol) decides which ports will be used for calls. Conclusion: What the heck is this mess?! haha ___________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
