I did a commute like this some years back. Taking Amtrak was pleasant, I got a lot of reading in, sometimes a nap. Otoh, it took a big chunk out of my life. Weekdays were work, commute, sleep (métro, boulot, dodo, if you want to sound like you're exhausted but just in a more fabulous place ;-). A friend of mine has done Swarthmore/30th Street (R3)/ NYC (Amtrak) and return every day for years. I don't know how he does it. Amtrak offers passes and 10-trip passes, but they have severely restricted when you can use them. It helps if you don't have to think about money because of the NY salary. At a certain point, though, it becomes easier to get a pied-à-terre in NYC so you don't have to do both directions every day. Depends on your family and personal life, though. Note, too, that Amtrak has electric at every seat. None of the others do, iirc. -- Jeff Jeff Abrahamson <http://jeff.purple.com/> +1 215/837-2287 After 6/2007: +33 06 21.83.26.20 (From U.S.: 011-33-6-2183-2620) GPG fingerprint: 1A1A BA95 D082 A558 A276 63C6 16BF 8C4C 0D1D AE4B Attachment:
