Not so. I've got a $30 USB scanner that came with the family iMac (an old Ruby one), and has been used extensively, and is
still working quite well. I use it to scan magazine articles, documents, tax forms, etc., to store them on CD for easy
reference. Most handy thing to have, and quite reliable.
