I greatly appreciate all the helpful replies to my OP, including the 
tangents.

This is not intended to target any particular person, this example just 
happened to be the one that pushed me over the edge today.

I don't mind the tangents, since I'm sure everyone learns something.

But everyone please, *please*, PLEASE, trim and edit your replies and 
don't top post, unless absolutely required, as in my summary above!!  We 
don't need the entire thread, especially since we've strayed so far the 
the original question.
