does anyone know of a CLI tool to navigate installed utilities/games and then launch them?

in other words, i love attaching an ssh session to an x session with x forwarding (a lot simpler than NoMachine, a lot more secure than VNC- as well as easier on resources) but i was wondering if there was anything for the console that lists binaries executable by you AND (and get this) CATEGORIZES them.

(okay okay, i admit; it's because when i'm SSH'd in and want to waste time, i have trouble remembering the names of the games. ;)

CURSES/NCURSES is ideal, but even text-only is fine. i was just curious if there was such a thing
