It's not that all talk of government, society, etc, is off-limits.  By all 
means, do bring up any issue that pertains to Linux or Free software, be it 
technical or not.

Discussion of members' political affiliation or alignment has absolutely no 
place on this list.  Period.  If you must ask, ask *after* one of the 
meetings when we're having a drink.  If you think you might post something 
incendiary, at least ask on the IRC channel *before* posting it.

Also, those who take the bait are part of the problem too.  If you know 
someone just posted something off-topic, don't post your equally off-topic 
reply to it on the list!  If you're absolutely dying to reply to the post, 
reply to the author directly, not the whole list.

It's not much to ask: just use your head, try not to annoy others.  That way 
we can all have a good time.
