mplayer and xine and so on have different output plugins, and it's
entirely possible that some of them don't work so well for you.  I'm not
sure how to get kaffeine to divulge how it's calling mplayer, but IIRC
it's all stored in text files under ~/.kde, so a judicious grep might
tell you.
