Also in favor of Ubuntu. A couple of things: As said, Ubuntu bends over backwards to make your experience 'friendly' by providing lots of graphical set-up utilities. Also, and more importantly in your case, you will find all levels of user experience represented in the Ubuntu forums, where you can find almost any one of your problems already hashed out. Also check out the documentation for Ubuntu. Very clear, without highly technical digressions to confuse the matter.
