Excellent idea, Jeff! With all of the recommendations to not evaluate performance from live-CD versions, I thought I would have to install every distro I wanted to try. Now that I have processed most of what the group has offered, your simple suggestion made me realize that I can at least get a first-hand look at the distros to determine which I might like to install. Thanks for the welcome, too. -- Bill On 2 Feb 2008 at 23:22, jeff wrote: > Bill Diehl wrote: > > OK, folks, you convinced me to try Ubuntu. > > rather than installing, why not try live cd's or virtual machines? > This way you can try any Ubuntu variant or whatver else you want. > > > derivative of Ubuntu - I just don't want unnecessary clutter and > > overhead on my computer > > if it's any consolation, I find XP to be too cluttered, with too much > overhead.
