Controller BIOS up to date, mobo BIOS(unless EFI) up to date? Just because it's new doesn't mean you have the most recent BIOS. Generally if the distro packaged driver doesn't work, try the one from the controller manufacturer. 

I hate to say shoulda coulda woulda, but you mite have been better off getting a 3Ware, or LSI controller much better Linux support. Not a big fan of Adaptec. But everyone feels differently. 

I guess I don't understand; MAC will burn an ISO just fine. Double click on the iso file. Select open with disk utility, and then burn.
