If a user wishes to have their information protected they should take
measures to handle this on their end by using accounts specifically
for PLUG, not using their real name, etc.

I for one want people to be able to contact me if I post to the list
in 2006 and they bump into my same problem in 2009 so I can give them
a hand.

...or if a potential employer finds some really brilliant post of mine
and wants to offer me a six figure salary to sit around and be awesome
- I want them to be able to email me :D
