Solder wick is thin copper wires that are braided into a
wick-like shape.
You could use a few thin copper wires twisted
together but just heating the plugged holes up and then directing a blast of
air (think: whistlin' dixie) is much quicker and cools the work piece down at
the same time.

If you are removing old parts then use solder wick or a "solder sucker" to
remove the solder from the existing connections just as soon as the solder
melts. Speed counts here - stop heating as soon as the solder melts and is
removed from the heated connection.
This is where I am now. I have the old part out, but 3 of the 5 holes are
still covered by solder. What should I use as a solder wick?
